Woolworths has slashed the price of ham just two months out from Christmas, lowering the Aussie favourite to as little as $8 per kilogram.

The supermarket giant said it was its lowest price for Christmas ham in nine years.

Hams began arriving on Woolworths shelves on Wednesday and will be available until they sell out.

“We know that value is more important than ever this year,” Woolworths Supermarkets managing director Natalie Davis said.

“Ham is the centrepiece of the Christmas table for many Australian families, so we’re excited to lower the price of our award-winning half leg ham to $8 per kilo, which is our lowest price for Christmas since 2014, to help budgets go further this year.”

Woolworths will stock 17 ham varieties over the festive season, including new products such as easy carve double smoked ham for $11 per kilo and gold triple smoked ham joints for $28 per kilo.

The supermarket said it expected to sell more than one million ham portions this Christmas.

Woolworths says it will begin rolling out its line of Christmas ham products from this week.

“Importantly, we know that preparing food can be time consuming, which is why we developed our range with convenience in mind,” Ms Davis said.

“We’ve done the work to make sure the range is easy to cook, or heat up and carve.”
