Terrifying footage has captured the moment masked men armed with a machete attempted to steal a teen’s bicycle after a social media sale went awry.
Dandenong Crime Investigation Unit detectives are now appealing for information over the attempted robbery in the Melbourne suburb of Springvale South last week.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said a teenager, 16, agreed to meet a man at a park on the corner of Springvale and Heatherton roads about 5.30pm on August 8.
He had agreed to sell a bike to the man.
Upon arriving at the park and stepping out of a car, two men produced a large machete and tried to steal the bicycle from the back of the car the teenager was in.
Video footage captured one of the men attempting to open the back of the car while brandishing the deadly weapon.
Both fled empty-handed when confronted by the teen’s driver.
No one was injured, the spokeswoman said.
Victoria Police are appealing for information and released video footage of two men they believe will be able to assist with their inquiries.
They are believed to be in their teens, approximately 170cm tall and were wearing full face coverings and non-distinctive clothing.
Anyone who witnessed the incident, has dashcam/CCTV footage or information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
