A man is fighting for life after he was found by passer-bys on a Melbourne footpath outside an apartment.

Emergency services were called to Jamieson St in Cheltenham at about 9pm Thursday following reports a 34-year-old man had fallen.

He was rushed to the Alfred Hospital and treated for lower body injuries.

Residents of the apartment building told the Herald Sun the man fell 10 floors, and it’s believed he remains in a critical condition.

While police have yet to confirm the circumstances surrounding the incident, a man and woman who live in a nearby apartments have been arrested and are assisting police with inquiries.

Initial investigations suggest there were reports of arguing around the scene before the incident occurred, with the 34-year-old last seen on the balcony of a nearby apartment.
