A man has been charged after he was allegedly behind the wheel of a car during a hit-and-run incident in which a teenage boy was seriously injured.

Joshua Cooper, 13, was hit by a car as he used a pedestrian crossing on Main Rd West in the northwestern Melbourne suburb of St Albans on August 9.

In dashcam vision of the incident released by Victoria Police, he can be seen running through the intersection where he’s clipped by an oncoming vehicle and knocked to the ground.

The 13-year-old suffered serious injuries and was rushed to Sunshine Hospital.

On Friday, a 60-year-old St Albans man was arrested and charged with dangerous driving causing serious injury, drive in a dangerous manner, failing to stop and render assistance, and failing to report the incident to police.

He has been granted bail but won’t be heading to court until next year, when he’s due before Sunshine Magistrates Court on March 1.

Joshua’s mother Isobella said her son had undergone surgery since the incident.

“And from that surgery we can then see how he will go and how this will impact his life, or if he can make a great recovery,” Isobella told Sunrise.

“We just hope for the best.”
