Homicide detectives are investigating after a man’s body was found in a car near a beach north of Sydney.

Police were called to a carpark on Trafalgar Ave at Umina Beach at about 3:15am on Monday, where they found the man’s body covered in stab wounds in a vehicle.

The man is yet to be formally identified but is believed to be aged in his 40s.

A man in his 30s handed himself into police at 7:30am where he was taken into custody.

He is now in hospital under police guard, receiving treatment for lacerations.

Brisbane Water Police dectivives have established a crime scene and are investigating the death assisted by State Crime Command Homicide Squad.

Forensic police have been spotted at the scene combing through the car for evidence.
